Introduction to Player Membership

THANKS FOR BROWSING THE CORNER POCKET

You saw a group of people chatting and playing around a bar pool table. You notice they look focused, have their own equipment, and may even be wearing matching shirts. The bartender seems engaged in these players, providing them with beverages, food, and comfortable seating together.

Did you approach a player and experience how friendly and happy they are to answer your questions? This is probably just one of the many ways you could find this site. A member has referred you here.

“yes, join a pool league.”

WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN A POOL LEAGUE?

We encourage you to read this entire page before changing your mind.

WONDERING IF YOU QUALIFY TO JOIN, WHATS MAKES YOU A “POOL PLAYER” ?

Is pool a sport or is it a game?

Well you are lucky for a lifetime when you decided to pick up a cue. The Corner Pocket's thoughts are that pool can be a sport and a game. You get to decide how far you want to go with it. Social or competitive or both from age 7 to 70+ you have it available to you. At home, a friend’s house, bar, pool hall you can choose social games, leagues, or tournaments - you can usually find a pool table nearby.

In POOL, players meet on the table in a contest that takes place in an environment that is unique in sports in one common aspect - players are often required to tell each other exactly what is about to happen and what their intentions are before they act.

And this is just the beginning. You have the pleasure of building your own personal arsenal of gear and clothing. Go all out or just grab a bar cue. We are here to help you. We have a website filled with information, conversations, helpful videos, links, and even a little shopping site to help make your pool experience a good one.

WHY A POOL PLAYER JOINS A POOL “LEAGUE” ?

Amateur and pro pool is experiencing a significant growth over the last decade. Pool is expanding heavily as a sport on YouTube and sports networks. Amateur leagues are streaming their leagues and tournaments globally!

First, let's explain “League”

A league is made up of one or more “divisions” under the control of a single League Operator. For example, a league may consist of a Monday night 8-ball division, a Tuesday night 9-ball division, a Wednesday 10-ball division, a Thursday scotch doubles division…

or any combination of nights, locations, games or skill levels. The Corner Pocket Leagues are classified under two types of leagues:

1. TRAVELING LEAGUE: The Traveling League are those in which matches are played in more than one location.

2. IN-HOUSE LEAGUES: The In-house League are those in which all matches are played in the same venue.

DIVISIONS: divisions are within the League, a collection of players that compete against each other over the course of a set schedule of 10-15 weeks. A division normally plays one night per week for a specified number of weeks. The League Operator has the flexibility to offer different types of divisions to suit local demand. Different divisions may offer different games, team sizes, skill levels or fees.

This is all organized for you by a League Director/Operator

-we do hold the authority to make final decisions on disputes, handicaps, and rules interpretations within all Corner Pocket Leagues.

-We set up divisions, create schedules, collect score sheets, and manage weekly team fees.

-we organize local tournaments and qualify teams for higher-level championships.

-we actively promote the league to new players and host locations.

-we establish specific rules for our league that may modify or add to the national rules.

-we oversee any handicap system to ensure fair competition.

-we are responsible for enforcing fair, honest, and competitive play.

“Our league offers an opportunity to learn new skills, grow as a player, and get better every week.”

“We play 8-ball, 9-ball Or 10-ball in structured seasons. It’s perfect for beginners to learn the game and for experienced players to sharpen their skills.
